Photojournalist and Photo Editor, Agence France-Presse (AFP)

Community/Lebanon Impact

Christina Assi, a Lebanese photojournalist and photo editor with Agence France-Presse (AFP), was deeply influenced by her upbringing amid regional conflicts, which fueled her commitment to documenting complex realities. In October 2023, her life took a tragic turn when she was gravely injured by an Israeli tank shell while reporting in southern Lebanon. Following this harrowing experience, Assi became a strong advocate for journalists’ safety. In 2024, she participated in the Olympic torch relay in Paris, dedicating her run to the memory of all journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty.
