Community Involvement

Joyce Hamze is the cofounder of Wave, a Lebanese Dutch social enterprise working to improve urban mobility in the MENA region through accessible electric bike subscriptions suited to local conditions. With a background in communications and entrepreneurship, she supports Wave’s strategic development and oversees daily operations in Lebanon.

She is committed to sustainable mobility, women’s leadership, and finding practical solutions to challenges her community faces. Joyce is a 2024 alumna of the Swedish Institute’s She Entrepreneurs programme, where she was recognized for her engagement in contributing to a more sustainable future.

Together with the Wave team, she has helped the company grow steadily despite Lebanon’s difficult environment. What many once thought unlikely is now slowly taking shape: encouraging cycling as a real option in Beirut. Each step toward this shift opens the door to fewer cars, less congestion, stronger community life, and greener air.

Joyce is now working with the team to expand the fleet in response to rising demand and to prepare for future international growth.
